Top-ups & upgrades to 270mm

Topped up to the 270mm standard.

Around a quarter of a home's heat can escape through a poorly insulated roof. We top up loft insulation to the recommended 270mm across Merseyside and the North West — usually in half a day.

Done properly

Warmer winters. Cooler summers.

Insulation only performs when the details are right. Every NWL top-up covers them:

  • Topped up, not ripped out sound existing insulation stays — we lay fresh mineral wool between and across the joists to a full 270mm.
  • Ventilation maintained eaves gaps kept clear so your roof timbers keep breathing and stay dry.
  • Details done right downlight covers fitted, cables lifted above the wool, tanks and pipes lagged.
  • Hatch sealed an insulated, draught-sealed hatch keeps the warm air where you paid to put it.

Tank & pipe lagging

Cold-water tanks jacketed and pipework lagged, so a colder loft never means frozen pipes.

Questions

Before you book.

I already have some insulation — is it enough?

Homes insulated before the mid-2000s often have 100mm or less — well under the 270mm now recommended. We measure your existing depth on the free survey and only quote for the top-up you actually need.

Can I still use the loft for storage?

Yes — pair the top-up with our raised loft boarding and you get full-depth insulation with a solid storage deck floating above it. No compromise either way.

Will it help in summer too?

It does. Insulation slows heat moving in both directions, so bedrooms stay noticeably cooler during hot spells as well as warmer in winter.

Is it a messy job?

No — dust sheets down, materials brought up in sealed bags, offcuts bagged and removed, and the landing hoovered before we go. Most top-ups take half a day.

What insulation do you use?

High-performance glass mineral wool roll — non-combustible, laid between and across the joists to reach a full, even 270mm.
